Do YOU Have to Weather the Weather?

Here's a link to where I set up a topic about weather-related issues within the Fibromyalgia Forum area.  Please follow it over there and then if you want to write, you can either write there (in more the pod of people with fibromyalgia) or come back here and write here!  Many people with chronic pain do NOT have fibromyalgia -- chronic headaches, back pain, knee pain, shoulder, etc.  Please tell others about your experiences here IF you want.  Many, many are reading and learning.  Thanks!  Mardy  read more »

Do You Weather the Weather? Howl at the Moon?

Prior to my returning to Colorado State University to complete my occupational therapy degree, I worked for a research project which was next to the Colorado Climate Center.  They were studying the effects of weather on people with chronic pain and generally I recall they found the symptoms started BEFORE the drop in barometric pressure!    read more »

Opioid Induced Constipation

One of my dearest friends, Johan, is in the hospital recovering from being hit by a car while he was riding his bike. Knowing that I deal with pain on a daily basis, he called me asking for tips on a number of things. We talk about the simple, yet annoying issue of how do you sleep when no matter what position you get into hurts. To the reason I wrote my latest blog; opioid induced constipation. Johan broke his pelvis which is very painful. All of his pain meds are backing him up. Constipation is adding to his pain.  read more »

Pain Management and Medication Wisdom

Here's an area for people to write and read about their experiences with pain management, medications, etc.

Supplement That Maybe Didn't Work So Well

Here's an area which hopefully will streamline where people can write or read about the supplements they have taken that were NOT their favorites.

Supplements I Have Taken for FMS/CFS That Help

Here's a topic I posted back in Lumigrate's formative year to hopefully streamline it so people could easily find where to write if they want to, or read -- or both -- about what supplements they take for FMS.  We are approaching our THIRD FM Awareness Day as we just had our second birthday/anniversary, and now we have more providers than EVER writing on Lumigrate.com so I am going to pull this out in May 2011 and 'dust it off' and ask those providers if they would like to include something to add onto this, as it had over 2,500 reads in the times since it was first  read more »

The Way to a Provider's Heart is ... (Through the Stomach)

Mardy Ross's picture

This topic was inspired by a gal who has become a follower of Lumigrate in the past few months and who, it turn out, is now hopefully contributing a great idea which you can read about.  She has fibromyalgia (and kids and a husband and extended family) and she was commenting on how fortunate she feels to have a physician who is really able to help her, and he will even listen to her whine a little bit when she needs to.  Having been a provider for many years, I know the 'business side' of things, so I was picturing the clinics I've been part of where the patients go home at 6 pm a  read more »

Vitamin D and Chronic Pain

Mardy Ross's picture

I was wanting to bring something into today's blog related to nutrition, since it's 'been all about pain' for the past week, because we realize our following is a diverse group of people interested in healthy eating and nutrition, the environment, health care reform, food allergies, complimentary medicine, etc.  I love the topic of chronic pain, but 'allright already'.  Let's talk about what to put in salads or something!   read more »

The Role of Physical Therapy in Chronic Pain Management", by Christine Zampach, BS PT, MEd, DPT

Mardy Ross's picture

The last speaker of the day was Christine Zampach, BS PT, MEd, DPT, who is an Associate Clinical Professor, UCSF Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science as well as Physical Therapy Consultant, UCSF Pain Management Center.  She presented on 'The Role of Physical Therapy in Chronic Pain Management'.  My earlier presentation touched upon the difficulties of chronic pain patients I had worked with in their previous pursuits to find a PT; many had tried PT but the treatment had caused a flareup so they didn't go back.  I really suggest to patients they follow up  read more »
