Mardy,
It was really enjoyable to talk to you. We have been facebooking a lot for a while now, so it was good to finally hear your voice and thoughts on how we can help others in pain. You asked about my path and how I got to where I'm at right now. Here goes:

I had headaches/migraines as a child that continued into my adult life. I finally got rid of them at the same time I got rid of my back pain 11 years ago. At the time that I got rid of my pain I had had a contracting business with a few employees. I enjoyed my work but most mornings woke up with a headache and some back pain. When I saw a therapist  that does Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy and followed the protocol they gave me, within 5 visits I was totally pain free.

It turns out it was my sleep positions and hip height. Also sugar was a big contributing factor.  When I saw what this did for me I couldn't believe it. No drugs....no strengthening exercises, but gentle stretching to make the muscles their full natural length.... I was amazed and realized that i had found what I was going to do the rest of my life.

Even before I started school for this I was helping family members and friends getting rid of headaches just from what I had learned as a patient. Now, I will tell you that at the time I got rid of my headaches from the muscle pain, I had been on about 80 pills a week for pain, muscle tightness...sleeping pills.  I had to check myself into rehab because of the amount of drugs the Docs had me on.

I thank God that I'm alive and well today and clean...and feel great. So when a patient comes in to see me and they say "you have no idea what I'm experiencing", I say "lets compare stories".  I usually win that one. That helps my patients to understand that I know where they are coming from, it's not in their heads, they really hurt and we need to find the "why" of their pain. That's my goal with anyone that I consult with remotely or see in my office. Find the "why" of their pain.

I look at it as a challenge and also as being a detective. I get excited to find something that Doc's miss. Unfortunately Doc's typically don't know muscle function and because of that they miss Trigger Points and, more importantly, why and how the trigger points got there in the first place.

So this is a job for me now, but I love doing what I do and hope that I can do this another 30 yrs and help a lot of people learn more and find true solutions for themselves and others. I've been blessed to have a pain free life, I want others to have that blessing as well.

Thanks again for taking time to get me into your group here.  I feel that this is going to help a lot of folks and I'm excited to be a part of it. I look forward to talking to you again very soon.
Sincerely,
Frank Gresham
CMTPT

Re: Frank Gresham, CMTPT's Personal History with Pain, ...

After a whole winter and fall went by where Frank Gresham and I had intended to Skype or talk on the phone, I had the pleasure of our schedules synchronizing this weekend.  I kinda think of him as  one of the blessings of my and Lumigrate's birthday, actually.

Through the wonders of facebook, we'd connected last summer I believe and then my time got diverted to family matters for a while, then to things that have more to do with the inevitable changes that go on with an 'organic' website such as Lumigrate, which is going to be a constantly evolving and changing resource, proving new sources of information and fine tuning the existing.

So starting out Lumigrate's third year as we are right now, I'm really pleased that Frank  has been so kind as to spend a great deal of time with me getting the overview of Lumigrate and taking me through his website and what he is about related to myofascial trigger point therapy.  He has a really nice website in my opinion and he showed his dedication to trying new  things when he started pumping out videos about positioning and taking something 'off my plate' that I am aware of and can do and was hoping
someone else would take the lead on.  SO WELCOME, Frank, and THANK YOU!

I was particularly interested in that he had a chronic pain history and thought I'd ask him to elaborate in his introduction about that -- we were talking about fishing and music on our phone conversation and I only got the very nicely condensed overview about how he went from doing what he was doing this!

I think people will enjoy the story as I have, so thank you for writing about that, Frank.  As they say "thanks for sharing".

Again -- Welcome and I believe you're going to be a really nice addition to the Grate Group ...  Now, to get some of those videos posted on Lumigrate! ~~ Mardy

Re: Frank Gresham, CMTPT's Personal History with Pain, ...

Mardy,

I was showing my wife what a nice job you've done with your site and the information you and I had exchanged to get to know each other better. It was then I realized I left out an important part of why I am where I am. My Wife.

As you know I'm a Christian, and I believe that the good Lord brought this beautiful woman into my life 33 yrs ago. We met on a blind date and I knew that moment she was mine forever. (It took her 2 weeks to realize that.)   I can honestly tell you and her (and I do all the time), that she is more beautiful today than yesterday and I love her with all my heart.  She is the most supportive woman I've ever had the pleasure to know. She is a huge reason why I am here now.

I didn't want folks to think that I did it all by myself, I didn't.  I'm making up for all those years that this lovely lady was by my side. We have two beautiful daughters, Rachel 33 and Erica 31, and 3 grandchildren now. So I am blessed far beyond what I deserve.  I just had to let everyone know that if not for her, I think I would have been a statistic on drugs and not contributing to life.

Thought I'd pass this on and share it with everyone here. I don't take for granted what I've been given now, and I'm going to enjoy my life and try and help as many people as I can. This is about giving back..... I have a lot...I want to give back.

Thanks again for being who YOU are and how You're helping people with this site.

HOW sweet, Frank! Lucky wife, Lucky ME, and ALL at Lumigrate

That's a really nice thing to say, Frank.  For one, acknowledging people's spirituality as part of their lives and wellness is part of integrative medicine and Lumigrate.com.  Having gone through what I did about ten years ago I say to people that it was simply not wanting to add any more burden to my failing father that kept me from being a statistic and NOT be not contributing to society as I'd not be on the Earth anymore.  My spiritual perspective is that we've all gone through these things and are RIGHT where we are today in order to be doing what we're doing and helping people.

Thank you so very much for sharing all of this Frank, it's really a wonderful example for people about having open hearts and souls if you ask me, particularly men who don't have a lot of these examples compared to women.  (More and more all the time though, SO good to see!)  I'm chuckling still a little rereading this about how it took your wife a couple weeks to catch up to the fate of your meeting.  That's quite the other way around as you likely know.  You must just have that insightful gift which is particularly important to being therapeutic with patient/consumers in my experience. Some can get by without it but for what you and I are doing, it takes that ability.

Look forward to having people catch your videos on Lumigrate and see what kind of feedback and needs they have you can help them with specifically.  Thank your wife for letting you have the computer time to get this done -- I've heard it's not the most fun to be in a relationship with.   ~~ Mardy

How to get content on Lumigrate, written/ video....

Hey Frank -- A MAN asking for directions?

I think I just felt the world stop spinning!

Thanks for asking.

  • You're going to want to scroll up above this 'stream' and click the link that takes you 'up' to the Forum where this "Topic" is, then
  • click to start a new topic (and you'll want a separate 'topic' for each of your videos and words that have to do with certain topics.  Certainly call me if you have questions, but I recommend you're going to want to divvy up your information based on 'complaint' that a person is seeking to remedy by looking at Lumigrate.
  • write in the area just as you have been with this piece and put a link to your video.  When you are writing you'll see all the formatting icons on the toolbar above the box you write in and the little icon indicating 'link' -- so you click on that where you want to insert the link and then copy and paste the link to where the video is there, just as you do on your blog I'd imagine.
  • Title it
  • put in keywords, and the instructions are underneath that box about putting "quotes like this" around words that go together, like "myofascia release" for instance, or "chronic pain".  Just as with your blog I'd imagine, you think about the Lumigrate users who are coming in say from Google or from facebook or just know about Lumigrate as they've seen a flyer provided to them by their patient who "Printed" something from Lumigrate.com and said 'go look at this site and learn, please, and tell your patients'.  What words does your piece apply to?  Always put in "chronic pain", "back pain", headache (single words don't need quotes around them you just separate with comma.
  • And then be sure to remind people in your signature, which you can Edit to have more information than it has now, that you have more videos and information as your website that what you're going to post on Lumigrate, naturally.  Lumigrate is a 'portal' of sorts simply doing the sorting for people to get in the ballpark and from here they can figure out a few games they might want to go watch more fully and link out there.  But then when they're thinking 'I liked that information what was the name of that person's website?', they know they can come back to Lumigrate, a name they remember because how can you forget it (LOL) and figure out who it was they were thinking of and go back and pick up more learning or refer others.

I'm looking forward to it, Frank, I have two friends locally I'll let know about it when we get your content here!  Let me know if I can help.

~~ Mardy

Why do we hurt???  This video gives the viewer an idea on why chronic pain is at epidemic proportions right now in our country.  I believe the 2 minutes you take to view this will be worthwhile if you're in pain.

Always feel free to email me or call if you have any questions.
