Martine Ehrenclou has a blog post at KevinMD that is an interesting tale of her husband's hip pain, and what they did collaboratively to identify one of the contributors, and apparently the major one if not the only one. Martine has been one of the experts at Lumigrate.com, focused around patient advocacy. I'm providing the link to the topic at KevinMD so you can 'go see the sites' there, if you wish.

I remarked on Martine's Facebook wall that what she was describing here in the tale was exactly what the Lumigrate YOU! model 'is about', teaching the patient to be a proactive patient and use the team the person builds around them for advise. Also, the communication through the patient, which you'll see Martine did for her husband as apparently he's been busy doing other things in the years she's learned and started teaching the ropes about advocacy.

I won't be a "spoiler" to what transpired relative to them finding, collaboratively, this significant contributing factor to the hip pain. I will say that they used the Internet, with her taking the lead on that, and had better results than when he went to the doctor without first having done the Internet research. Hopefully some day the Lumigrate YOU! model will make it around to everyone and they'll practice and develop their skills at being great YOUsers of their bodies as well as the Internet for research.

Homework: If you read the story, from what she relates in the blog post/article, how would YOU draw up Jamie's YOU! model? You might have a very different 'model' in mind than I'd come up with, or Martine, or Jamie/husband. I think another one of the orbs that says "Who would you add?" would do well to be labeled "Martine, Patient/Husband Navigator". Or perhaps you have other ideas. And the, perhaps do one about YOU! or someone you're helping with their health and wellness.

Congratulations to Martine in being included at KevinMD, I think we've talking in the past about the blogsite and I know I've recommended it and linked to it a number of times over the years.
