For those of us who then know what we need to do with eating differently (or exercising, or stopping or starting any new 'habit') Dr. Paula King (psychologist) was generous to contribute her time to record 'Strategies for Lasting Change' which has a cool handwriting exercise that shows why it's so HARD to take on a new habit, and then gives us a full on 'guided imagery' exercise!  For $20, anyone in the world can download a video and powerpoint of what she says in the seminar.  All videos are set up to not have any time limit or 'watch limit' on them... you can watch them a million times for 100 years!  Show others!  Maybe charge $1 admission for everyone and recoup your $20!

My concept with Lumigrate.com is different: we don't have advertisers.  It's like milk: you want a bottle, it's a charge for the production, and we're charging a low price ... the cost of going to a movie!  And it's your HEALTH.  We also hope that the public will call up, write, or email their health care providers and say 'please look at this website and download this video, as I think it describes what I might want YOUR help with.'

For your ease, here are the links to the recommended video AND if you think you don't know how to find them on the website and do the download thing (and if I/Mardy can do it, anybody can -- I am NOT known for my abilities with a computer) -- please refer to this blog:

.... and as ALWAYS ... please gain your trust with how a download works with the

FREE (and only 20 minute) "Chronic Illness: Full Barrel Syndrome" by Dr. Leptiso:

THANKS for learning with us!  I established Lumigrate.com for "Lighting the Path to Health and Well-Being" because I felt SO fortunate to have found out in the year past about food allergies ... hypothyroidism ... detox and cleansing .... supplements ..... mindfulness .... And I found out the HARD WAY and was VERY sick for a long time and was SO impressed with these progressive providers I was 'lucky' enough to land in the middle of here in little ol' Grand Junction, Colorado that I thought 'why NOT make a website and put their seminars on it?'  So please, take advantage!  The light is here for you to grab and start shining on YOUR path! ~~Mardy

(I'm hoping someone who has some experiences with visualization and guided imagery will add their input here.  I used visualization when I specialized in driving rehabilitation about 10 years ago and it was very beneficial.  The intentions for the forum area is to have a positive place for people to share their experiences and learn from each other.  I look forward to seeing what YOU write!  Thanks! Mardy)

Re: Making changes in your life

I have worked in hospitals that provide guided imagery to patients in the ICU. It was therapy that was dependent on the nurse understanding the benefits of such therapy. Therefore, it was rarely used.

In 2005, I was a victim of the failed levess after Hurricane Katrina, in New Orleans. After returning and seeing my home, I began to have panic attacks and insomnia. I was referred to a counselor who gave me a guided imagery tape. I "poo-pooed" the idea of guided imagery. How is this going to help, I asked my self.

After using it one time, I was hooked. I was asleep after 5 minutes and have never heard much beyond  that point since.  I carry my CD with me when I travel.

As a nurse, it is therapy , that I will provide for my patients and encourage them to use. Statistically, patients in the ICU are at risk for ulcers due to stress. It is now part of the ICU regimen to place patients on an H@ blocker because of thess findings.  As for me, I will provide  guided imagery for my patients. I have always been a nurse who provides music in my patients rooms. In fact, I have had doctors come by and just sit and listen to music. Music is therapy. But for me and my patients, guided imagery is an adjunct method of decreasing stress in the ICU.

Re: Making changes in your life

Carmen, you can be my nurse Any Day and thank you for bringing 'integrative medicine' to the ICU, patients, doctors and now Lumigrate!  I'm going to shine a light on this contribution to the forum area, as it is just very special.

I encourage anyone who is interested to preview the snippets on the website of Dr. Paula King's 'Strategies for Lasting Change' video.  She goes through a guided imagery exercise in applying it to how we make desires into habits (and with a really fun handwriting exercise to show the point).
