The Power of Friendship in Recovering from Illness -- or Brain Injury!

Mardy Ross's picture

I wanted to get something written up today EARLY while it is what is being covered on the news today related to the memorial service in Tucson last night which was a great deal about healing the country as well as Congressman Giffords having just opened her eyes for the first time right beforehand.  Her friends who were present were just interviewed and 'obviously giddy' with the excitement of seeing her making improvement and feeling positively about the opportunity which was taken related to this unfortunate event to provide an example to all of us for not overly analyzing what the p  read more »

How a Tire Changed Things for YOU (and Me) with Lumigrate

Mardy Ross's picture

"Some days you write the song ....... some days the song writes you" is playing on my beloved Acoustic Sunday radio show by Rock Cesario as I start writing today, and I realize that Yenta, Alice and I all talk about how we regroup for a while related to what to write about and then have a general idea of what we're going to write about but then the piece takes on quite a life of it's own.  So we can only hope today is the same for me and this finds you entertained.   read more »

RETIREMENT --- 'IDENTITY THEFT'?

I was raised by my parents to always work for what you want.  We didn't have all of the luxuries that the kids have today....no  cell phones, no T.V,s, no computers........I could go on and on. So working was just an accepted part of life if you wanted anything.  I bought my first pair of skis, a bike, and a used 1950 Chevy (my dream car).

Life after cancer-chemo brain is gone and I can still drive!

Background;  I am an occupational therapist who has specialized in driving rehab.  I WILL talk about that, but not right now.  I felt that I should address the battle with cancer that so many people are engaged in.  I am a 3-time survivor of breast cancer, the last occurrence being almost 10 years ago.  In that time I have leared a few things that I would like to share.  What triggered this is a lengthy conversation that I had with my 32-year-old niece who is currently undergoing treatment.  My older sister did not survive; my younger sister has not been t  read more »

Transitions from Fibromyalgia to ... FUNction

Mardy Ross's picture

I'm glad we had so many people at least become aware of the resources available on Lumigrate.com related to fibromyalgia with Awareness Day last Wednesday.  This past week I've been 'switching it up' to find some new FUNctional information for people to have access to at Lumigrate.  I like to say that fibromyalgia is a bad case of what a lot of other people have going on, so any information appropriate for fibro is likely of interest to MANY others.  When you look at 'what ails us', 20% of the US population is 'on the continuum for fibromyalgia' (per Dr.  read more »

Hi I'm Petie - an OT Friend and Colleague of Mardy's

Hi -- I'm introducing myself today to what Mardy tells me is "The Grate Group"  I met Mardy when she was working in driving rehabilitation in Colorado Springs.  My adult son has developmental disabilities and learned how to drive, which had some interesting stories I will hopefully share in the future with you.  (My experiences of a Developmentally Disabled Mom.)   read more »

My Presentation for Berkeley Conference on Proactive vs Passive Patients and Providers Giving Control (from a blog 7/2009)

I was so very pleased to be asked to present at the Chronic Pain Documentary Series Conference in Berkeley this past weekend (see yesterday's blog).  I was asked by the filmmaker doing the series based on my commitment to the concept demonstrated on Lumigrate's home page and my history of having been both a patient/consumer with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue over the past 20 years and a provider.  The seminar I presented is titled 'Proactivity vs.  read more »

Pets -- The Love of Cats and Dogs

Every morning my routine is to get up and make something hot to drink and look at what was added to the Forum area at Lumigrate.com overnight, check on the Facebook pages and do my best to be engaging and contribute to the experience people share there, check email.  I then write a new blog post (which I've decided about the day before but think about before getting out of bed).   read more »

Reader's Digest Condensed Version of "The You Model" for Pain

Mardy Ross's picture

If I were to have a half hour of time in a video to describe occupational therapy and chronic pain from my perspective, which is the Lumigrate 'You Model" basically, I'd do it in the following way:  read more »
