I keep finding books as time goes on that are out NEW and I think are fabulous. I hear about them because of the publicity stunts they do to get people hearing about the book and people buying them. The Mood Cure is far from new, but I was surprised after looking through it to see how long ago it was written; 2002!  How I found this book might be of interest and I think is a rather fun little 'story'. I don't think of myself as having a mood problem, similarly I didn't think of myself as having a sugar addiction ....  until I bought the book about which you see in "the Lumigrate bookshelf forum" that I have, for a while now, recommended to virtually everyone (Beat Sugar Addiction Now!). Same as I do now for The Mood Cure by Julia Ross, M.A.

I had heard of The Mood Cure, and of Julia Ross, (i.e. was 'aware' but not 'educated' (which precede forming opinions and taking action and making changes) but it was just a vague and positive recollection I had of it. I wasn't setting out to purchase a new book when I went to the local healthy food and supplement store, which is Natural Grocers  by Vitamin Cottage.

I had a link from Lumigrate to their website, their now-former website, from day #1 in 2009, as they used to be into selling via the Internet, anything that could easily be shipped, including supplements. In their stores they had people who could help you find things and resources to answer questions, but on-line they were not up to speed on that aspect, that I was aware of. They're a company that started about the time my family moved about 20 minutes away back in the mid 1950s. I have heard the founder did door to door selling before she had a store, which then turned into more stores.  When 2009 came along, they were re-branding to "Natural Grocers", and it was because of "Codex', I was told in a meeting with someone from their organization.

They've been growing in new states and just booming with new brick and mortar so I had thought they might have growing pains. And just went about my work, continuing to shop there, go to seminars and check out their NEW and impressive website AND link from it from at least one topic about nutrition. They have FREE nutritionists in each store, and the one that started in recent years in 'my store'/ my area  is excellent, and I've tackled the poor guy a few times when I'm in the store and see him when he has a moment to let him know about 'pyroluria'.

Last week I'd spoken with a woman who thinks she has it based on symptoms that I'd told her about and she wanted advise. I told her my advise on that one is to be sure to get someone good advising about your nutrition and supplementation. Her first though was "what about the guy at Natural Grocers?".  So I called and left a message for him to expect someone might be heading in with that as a concern so he could study up about it if he had not already. He's VERY busy. And he was not there / on vacation.

Then the next time I went to the store I saw him fly by and went after him to ask if he had gotten the message. He hadn't, so it was good I double checked. (The front clerk answers the phone and writes messages then they get taped to his door in the back area.) But I didn't realize he was helping someone at the time so he asked me to hold tight. The bookshelves they sell books from are nearby so I went to look if there were may be more books that had pyrole disorder in them than the one I'd found the last time we spoke.

Now, if you're going to not like that I am going to say that I've been developing and honing my intuition or guidance about which direction to be lead about things, please skip this paragraph. Since a traumatic experience in 2007/8 when I was desperate to figure out what caused a bizarre and uncharacteristic behavior in someone in my personal life, and I went to my bookshelves of resources and pulled out one that was a sensible title for the reason, but then turned right to a page which was about antahistamine making some with anxiety have this type of behavior, I realized I had stumbled upon something that might be of value to my researching.

Then in 2010/11 I met a provider who didn't even need to touch people for AK testing, they could do it with a photo or video or image of the person in mind and a photo of the product, or the product, etc. Then in 2013 I talked with a provider in the veterinary / animal world who could do it without even those visual cues. I mean, it was mind expanding for me.

I was 30, 25 years ago almost, when I first saw AK testing and I remember how "hooey" or "woo-woo" it seemed, but then EVERYTHING that provider had found initially with AK testing ended up being proven right in the future, one way or another. Life changing ... paradigm shifting ....

One I'd like to share to demonstrate how AK was substantiated by conventional science and helped me shift and believe 'outside the box' more occurred in a physiology lab in university studies when I volunteered to be the one my partners hooked up to the electrodes to find the heart and how it worked and mine was, just as the chiropractor had said years before, in the rotated position that occurs, per the conventional education / physiology information in about 15% of people (if I remember correctly, it's been a long time so look that one up if you're interested.)  And the chiropractor had said that it was either a strange position or another factor that he had no way of teasing out which was which.

So last week at Natural Grocers Julia Ross' book The Mood Cure, which they had three copies of, drew my attention, so I followed. That was the first and only book I looked at. Opening to the index, I saw many pages listed about pyroluria and pyrrole disorder, and glanced them over then started looking through the book overall. WOW, it looked really good. So I showed Dustin the book when he was ready to speak with me. And I've shown it to everyone I've seen since who has any of the things that I think could be helped by the information in the book.  (And I'd go back and look at their shelves and soon there were zero copies!)

What do I like about The Mood Cure so much?

It is VERY do it yourself (DIY) oriented, and then has great references of who to contact for help, and it's organized really well. She writes in a style that I think is easier to understand than the previous HOT book I was so amped up about which is the rather old The UltraMind Solution,  by Dr. Mark Hyman (which has a topic in this bookshelf forum too). I've gotten feedback from someone who purchased that book based on my recommendation that it was all about all this testing of things and they didn't have the money for testing as they are on disability / old age pension in their country (UK).

I had not felt that one necessarily needed to do the tests that Dr Hyman was recommending to glean the pertinent information from the material and DIY, but people often have a lot of brain limitations when they're trying to learn about what to do about their brain and it's the proverbial "catch 22". Finding THE right book or website content / writer / expert is a real trick.  I try to appeal to a certain range of people and make things easier and story-like but then bold or otherwise break out the highlight information that I hope will be seen and taken into the minds of  all.

She also maps out the way to take supplements similar to how I do it with my 'ideal daily flow sheet' and 'daily game plan' that I have shared about on Lumigrate in various places. I was so excited about the book I called her office to find out how, in the years since, particularly with the new focus on Lyme disease coming into the spotlight, they'd integrated that in. I had a great conversation with a very interested person who was running the office / phones at that point in time when I called. And I was actually able to connect them with some new information that they were not yet aware of.

This has been what I've noticed the last year, I've now been on the cutting edge of a few things and able to tell people who are cutting edge other cutting edge things! How cool is that?! Since she had said in writing the book in or before 2002 that she had just been made aware of pyroluria and it was new to her but proving to be major information, and crediting who had let her know about it, I had felt an 'openness' from Ms Ross to hear about something I could perhaps contribute. And I let them know I was going to be creating a topic at my website so that our YOUsers could be aware of this incredible book.

This is what the book's back cover says:

Drawing on thirty years of experience as a psychotherapist, clinic director, and pioneer in the field of nutritional psychology, Julia Ross presents breakthrough solutions to many of the negative emotional states that are diminishing the quality of our lives. Her comprehensive, safe, and natural program is based on the use of four mood-building amino acids and other surprisingly effective nutritional supplements, plus a diet rich in good-mood foods such as protein, healthy fat, and key vegetables.

Beginning with an individualized Mood-Type Questionnaire, Ross' plan will help you to:

  • Overcome depression, anxiety, irritability, stress, apathy, oversensitivity
  • Learn to distinguish between true and false moods
  • Eliminate the four most common mood imbalances
  • Create a nutritherapy master plan using targeted supplements and good-mood menus and recipes
  • Eliminate insomnia, addiction, and hormone-related moodiness
  • Discover clinically effective nutritional alternatives to antidepressant drugs

This exciting plan can show results in just twenty-four hours. Get started today and feel better tomorrow!

Here is the link to the Mood Cure dot com website --- www.moodcure.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc

There's good overview information and the trip to the products tab, looking at 'all products' is very helpful.  I recognized many of the brands she provides at her clinic and website as brands I've been provided by providers I've gotten advise and direction for, and even a couple of the products. I also have seen many of them at Natural Grocers. The book sells for $13.99 at her website, it's $17.00 as the retail price. I cannot more highly recommend taking a trip on the above link to 'see the sites' as I jokingly call the links from Lumigrate.

(And as you see, her book back cover says "get started today and feel better tomorrow". Honestly, when I eat the way I believe is right for me (and drink, much about caffeine, alcohol goes into her information AND cannabis too) and take my supplements the right way, I feel better that day. And I liked that she works it into her material that sometimes people don't get all the supplements into them because they 'forget'. The catch 22. Hence my developing the ideal daily flow sheet for patients I worked with way back in 2007 and since.

Live and learn. Learn and live better! ~ Mardy

When we look at the Lumigrate 'cornerstone' YOU! Model, I like to suggest to people they take out a piece of paper or two and draw their current model of providers that surround them in the live world -- those you have already gone to in person or via the phone or Skype, etc.  Then create another one or add onto it with another color or indicator and think about who you'd IDEALLY like to have on your team. Wouldn't it be amazing to be able to have someone like Julia Ross consulting with you about YOU? So the next best thing is their website and book, and therefore they are giving you more information in a book for under $20 than they could ever give you 1:1 talking. So in a way, they are an adjunct advisor for your team YOU! I wanted to include the model and that important concept here, as I expect I am going to be sending this link out a lot.

HOPE in our midst as Lumigrate is "Lighting the Path to

                                                                             Health and Well-Being"

SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder Covered Well in This Book

The way Julia Ross' program looks at moods, she identifies what she calls 'false moods'. It's a brilliant way of looking at people's symptoms.  The types are:

  • Type 1: Under a Dark Cloud: Low in Antidepressant Serotonin
  • Type 2: Suffering from the Blahs: Low in Stimulating Catecholemines or Thyroid or Low in Natural Stimulatns like Noradrenalin or Thyroid
  • Type 3: Overwhelmed by Stress: Low in Tranquilizing GABA
  • Type 4: Too Sensitive to Life's Pain: Low in Pain-Killing Endorphins

Taking SAD for example, the question gives you 3 points if you circle it, and reads "Do you really dislike the dark weather or have a clear-cut fall/winter depression (SAD)?"

Some people have symptoms in several or all of these 'false mood' types, based upon the questionnaire, which only takes up three pages of a moderate sized paperback book (again, available at her website for a good price if you want new and a good price, plus there's lots of info there and supplement products they use, etc.)

I had someone specifically ask me about SAD today and realized that was one keyword I'd not identified when I created this topic thread, so someone searching on that and not "depression" might not find it. I definitely want our YOUsers to know of this book and the solutions it offers in the innovative ways Julia Ross has developed and promoted if they have SAD or any and all of the words that we might think of to desribe our state of mind and mood.

The Mood Cure's Recommended by Dr Amelia Hardwick ORN Interview

Here's what you'll find at OneRadioNetwork's topic about the September 3, 2015 interview with Dr. Amelia Hardwick.  I really liked the overall information she provided, even before I heard the whole thing and knew she'd identified BOTH of the top two books I recommend to most everyone.  The Mood Cure and The UltraMind Solution are go-to books for me for most people, and there are others -- Beat Sugar Addiction Now! for most people, for instance.... If a person's up for obtaining three books I'll usually suggest all three, but most people I try to determine which ONE to START WITH.

So I've added this onto the topic about The Mood Cure, so you can see what I've said, above, and here's the link to the very long, complex topic with many of Lumigrate's experts from that timeframe adding into the conversation.  www.lumigrate.com/forum/fix-your-broken-brain-healing-your-body-first-gut-key-ultra-mind-solution-mark-hyman-md
