Lumigrate now has two fan pages, "Lumigrate" and "Lumigrate: Fibromyalgia".  (And currently is wanting everyone following us to be in one or both of those groups as the Lumgrate Webucation presence is actually a 'personal page' that was inadvertently set up in 2009, with a "Group" that is "Lumigrate.com").  We've utilized that to messenge people who are following us when there is something important going on, and realize that many many other service organizations and businesses did this same thing in 2009 so it might be that it's kind of like driving a little over the speed limit -- and you can still get caught on it, which would be very not good for the people who are following us if they weren't also in the fan pages.  So we're wanting others to learn from our mistakes if they want!

I heard that "Pop" of Chat on facebook tonight and it was a friend from high school asking how to set up a facebook presence for his blog, and I'd been meaning to set up an area in the Forum related to things that people keep needing to know about how to get started writing in the Forums.  I also wanted to create a place where people who are following Lumigrate can come and ask each other questions about facebook, because it truly is a wonderful tool -- with the whole Internet and hopefully Lumigrate -- related to health information.

Knowledge is power, and people coming together can be synergistic.  Leadership is always helpful, so think of this as yet another component for Lumigrate: "Lighting the Path to Health and Well-Being."  It's been nothing but a pleasure to see how amazing the collective information of the people who have found us know about health issues, so I thank you and welcome you for what you contribute here as well.  Remember, everyone can start a new Topic in a Forum, and the little "Print" buttons yeild a nice quality copy on the screen or to paper that reads nicely and can serve as a lasting resource or means to share.

Fan pages ... is that best for a blog?

I have Mitch's permission to say that we're friends on facebook and actually knew each other 30+ years ago in Evergreen, Colorado in high school.  He has a blog about food (and is going to put something in our recipes area and then link to his blog), and is wondering what people recommend related to setting up something on facebook.  He's a year older than me and had to get to bed as he is OLD, and I figured I'm YOUNGer and can take another bit of time to ask for him tonight and let y'all know about this new section and his question so that he might have some answers tomorrow.

I actually have a question: with a fan page, such as our Lumigrate or Lumigrate: Fibromyalgia Fan Pages, is there a way to get a message out to everyone like there is with a personal page?  I know that when you post something on the fan page everyone who is a fan sees it when they go to Home and that's one way to get word out.

What are ways people have found to get more Fans?

I'd appreciate suggestions for Lumigrate, as we're really working hard to get the word out about us to more people who might be interested in our progressive health information.  (We have many NEW providers that are experts in many different areas coming in to write soon).   So if you have comments for us or for Mitch about facebook related to a food blog, please Comment here!  Start new Topics too!

Re: How to Get People on facebook Herded to You

Hi Mardy!

One way I found it easy to get new friends onto the fan pages is right under the picture you can promote ad (which costs money) but what I have done is click "Suggest to friends" link and it comes up with a list of people you are friends with. You can click on their pictures if they are not already fans of your page and invite them to join! It's pretty simple, but I am sure you will have people ignore the request, so I'd be careful not to invite the same people over and over again :)

I have not found a way to get a message out there, just when you post a status or something on the page it shows up the mini feed. They are there if people look for them. I see everything you post on my mini feed so it does work!

Hope this helps!!

Faith Young is the pseudonym used by one of Lumigrate's longest content providers, as she began writing at the age of 24 in Lumigrate's FIRST year on the Internet!  In real life, this young woman who has been living with FMS for many years received her Bachelors degree in Health Education from Montclair State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude. To further her career, she is currently working on two Masters degrees, one in Counseling from Seton Hall University. Since she is a 6th grade health teacher working to educate students on the importance of being physically and emotionally healthy, we found it best to provider her with a pseudonym of her choice and "Faith Young" is what resonated. In the long run, this very real young woman has faith and hopes be able to use health education in counseling and provide up to date information at Lumigrate which will appeal to the younger people 'out there' and bring them 'in here' to Lumigrate in addition to our more mature adults.  In addition, she is a LumiLiaison for Lumigrate.com and helps facilitate Lumigrate FMS fan pages on facebook.  Search on Lumigrate and Lumigrate: Fibromyalgia and join us related to general and/or FMS specific information; Like us and those #s count with our advertisers and supporters and also allow YOU to keep up with what we're up to!

Suggest to Friends, as Candace Suggests!

That's a wonderful Tip and would really help Lumigrate grow if people would do what you suggest.  So the 5 Easy Steps are:

  1. Go to the Fan Page (Lumigrate, Lumigrate: Fibromyalgia, Lumigrate: Fibromyalgia Health Education Counseling) and
  2. under our logo in the upper left corner you see 'Suggest to Friends'.  Click on that.
  3. A screen saying "Suggest Lumigrate (whatever fan page) to Friends" appears.
  4. Click on the friends that you think would want to become a Fan and learn of the things we promote on our status and have on the page

"Send Invitations".

I hope that really makes it easy for people who might be very new to facebook or have cognitive difficulties to step through this helpful thing they can do to promote health with us at Lumigrate!  Thanks, Candace!
