I initially created this topic (editing it August 2015) when I'd encountered a little market for fine foods that was with a wine and spirit store in Grand Junction, Colorado. They'd had the BEST cheese that my friend who provided culinary inspiration and recipes and FUN to Lumigrate and me and my Facebooking in 2008-2010, Pablo Blanco, served one evening. With wine. Once, we ran into each other at that wine store and after he left, I said something about our having had a two year relationship and he just stared at me (as you'd never put the two of us together) and said 'he buys a lot of nice wine'.  And trust me, the foods he served and the way he cooked was amazing, really was like a little vacation to go to his house and always entertaining. Not in a typical, healthy, stable way -- in a 'what's going to happen this time' way.

Time moves on. People move on. He moved on to Denver then another state, I heard. I'm sure he's livening up the people around him who have the benefit of meeting one of the most unique and talented, brilliant people I've ever known. He told me things one night, when he'd had more wine than usual and only snacks, not dinner as I was out at a 'thing' for dinner, that catapulted me to new levels and as soon as he told me, I knew THAT was the reason we'd been intermingled in life for a while. And sure enough, not long after that he was displaying photographs of him with a woman and pets in his office and threw me out for asking nicely about her. Well, he just took my plate off the table and told me to go, once I started doing the dishes he started engaging me to stay. Push Pull. Personality disorders, allopathic behavioral medicine would call it.

And I thought for a while that one of the reasons was to connect me to the store, because they were education-focused, the owner was not only the son of an allopathic medical provider but had chronic, environmental health symptoms and was receptive and APPRECIATIVE of my suggestions about learning about gluten, wheat, organics -- he understood that to some extent, but the gut biome was a whole other thing. Sadlly, one day I went in to purchase something and there was a long line and he was wearing a different look, walking through the line shaking hands and having people saying something that I finally figured out had to do with 'sorry about the store closing'.  He was going into selling clothing and closing the stores, with his wife saying she was going to do whatever to help with that too.  She was savvy, energetic, and they hired really good people.  Their website stayed the same for a long time. Today I checked the link and it's gone. So I wanted to change this topic.  I was in this forum area to write something about cooking with things I'd moved on to figure out to do with another local business.  And so it goes.

This is what I'd written and posted here initially:

In the last year I have grown to LOVE everything about Crossroads. Their new location is wonderful and places them where people can easily get to and in/out of their BIG new store. They added the 'food side', which they're going to simplify and call "Crossroads Finer Foods".  The co-owner, Jerry, of the husband/wife team, grew up in Florida and seems to me to really knows about waters and the sea and seafood related to safety.

I asked a question yesterday about a type of fish they had in that looked YUMMY, but I'd never heard of it and I was inquiring about where it would be on the 'mercury list' and Jerry sent me the link to the recipes that I've set up, below.  I thought it was time to get the conversation started about seafood quality and nutrition, and include the very important aspects of the big picture for the Earth and it's fish supply.

The biggest concern I have about SOME fish and that has to do with mercury, but that's rapidly being equalled related to 'farm-raised' concerns.  I've written about mercury on another Topic here and I'll get you the link so you have BOTH the YUM (recipes here at this link), and the UGH (studying about the details related to mercury, which I weave in with my personal history of finding out about heavy metals in my system and where they might come from -- and naturally, solutions are on Lumigrate as well.

First, here's a link from a reliable source related to the types of fish and their typically tested mercury content:

Recipes for Hawaiian seafood: MARDY'S NOTE JANUARY 2015.  Crossroads went out of business in 2014, their website was up for a while so I'm leaving this here and forwarning YOUsers. And I hope YOUsers will think about where they spend their dollars and supporting the vendors with the most integrity WHEN POSSIBLE.

Stop looking at the price as the ONLY or MOST IMPORTANT thing, look at what you can change in your spending in order to be obtaining and consuming things that are going to pay off with your well-being level afterwards, sooner or later. Analyze your habits .... and take action accordingly. YOU hold the responsibility for that and often consumers have been taught or gotten in some habits that have been a large part of their problems with mental or bodily symptoms. Thanks for the dent you made, Eleni and Jerry, with Crossroads. Some of us are just ahead of the wave a little too much to not drown in the costs involved. ~ Mardy

And for those who want a 'case history' they might relate to: My piece here in the Foods Forum about Mercury and something "fishy" in my body - I have enough mercury to be a thermometer!

www.lumigrate.com/forum/mercury-seafood-somethings-fishy-my-body-shows-im-part-thermometer

I've learned so much more in that time .... what's in food. It's not necessarily the mercury in the fish, it's what our body's biochemistry is doing with conversion due to things being out of whack in our gut/ intestines, THOUGH clearly it's an interrelated problem.  It continues to take divergent thinking to solve, and the irony is that as people's gut-brain connection gets impaired, their cognition gets off. So how can we figure out this complicated cascade that has to do with how we got unwell and how to get well or reverse symptoms at the least to get better and symptom relief?
