Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution

Men and women who serve in  the U.S. Military for 20 years, risking their lives protecting freedom only get 50% of their pay in retirement.  Meanwhile, those serving our country as elected officials hold their political  positions in the safe confines of the capital, protected  by these same men and women. They receive full  pay retirement after serving one term.  Does this make sense?
 
For too long we have overall been  too complacent about the workings of Congress. Many citizens had no idea that  members of Congress could retire with the same pay after only one term, that they specifically exempted themselves from many of the laws they  have passed (such as being exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment) while  ordinary citizens must live under those laws.  

There are exemptions for repayment of student loans granted to staffers and family members which we can hope the media will make known in the future. They do not have the same restrictions about making investments with 'insider' information that others have, and information is now being turned up related to significant monies having been made by some.   The latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare Reform... in all of its forms.  Somehow, that doesn't seem logical.

 This is one proposal that is being suggested: 

Proposed  28th Amendment to the United States Constitution: "Congress  shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally  to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the  Senators and/or Representatives that does not  apply equally to the citizens of the United  States ."

Mardy's note: I received this from someone I know personally to be politically active and valid related to volunteering with non-partisan organizations as well as those which align personally.  I have made some changes and edits and have not fact-checked it, but wanted to post this on Lumigrate in order to keep the awareness related, in particular, to health care.  We're going into a time that will likely create a lot of change and, while we don't want to become absorbed in the political aspects here at Lumigrate, we do want to acknowledge it's importance today.
