2017's Coming to a Close - O'Rio and I Have This to Say

Do you remember how fun it was to get printed Christmas Letters (or whatever holiday you'd celebrate) in the mail?  I loved them -- I remember the first woman who was doing them, too -- her daughter was my first friend from age 2 or 3.  I look forward to getting an update from YOU if you are updating! 

My big news this year is that O'Rio officially became my dog, and I his official human -- My wishes with Santa in 2016 with O'Rio were for him to get some of the things that would help him.  Everything came true. It just was a win, win, win. And it continued in 2017.

Naturally, his former family asks about him and cares how he's doing, and misses him, of course, and they know whenever they wish to see him, if we're nearby, we can visit.  Environmental illness is just key to this whole story of me, O'Rio, and his many people who love him. 

His owner, since O'Rio's being born to her former beloved 'mama dog' in February 2005, had become sensitive to things and increasingly unwell.  Myself, having had environmental illness as you likely know, since birth (or before, of course) and reversing it overall successfully, I know it took me a long, long time to not react to cats and dogs.  So that had occurred to his former owner in spring while on vacation without dogs. 

On Memorial Day to me, just another Monday to a very innovative German MD, I finally had the IT tools to remotely "learn to test" for "element of sensitivity" AND reduce exposures, ideally to zero -- never.  I learned I have the rare condition to do with genes where TWO elements mess with my energy, and therefore detoxification pathways and other things get out of whack.  This makes otherwise manageable things the body encounters problematic, and then you're symptomatic and 'unwell'.  Without a sensitivity plus exposure, you can handle less-than-significant "bad stuff". 

My elements are mercury and aluminum, which are the two most common ones for those who have one (or two).  And guess who has mercury sensitivity in common? O'Rio!  

No real surprise -- the day I started working with him I was starting to see his symptoms that were similar to mine ... not seeming to hear well, see things that were going on around, back and neck and hip pain, obsessive about certain things and totally uninterested in others which would be 'normal for a dog'. 

I've come to see that what is called autism and chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia (and similar others overlapping), movement disorder, and cognitive impairment ultimately is dysautonomia.  

In the spring I was to work with the family's yellow laborador retriever, who was about like O'Rio when he was two -- hyperactive and drove everyone nuts.  Truly like Marley in Marley and Me.  O'Rio and I are no spring chickens, and it was not that hot in April in the desert of western Colorado when we went for a 20 minute walk.  However, when we got back to the car, the young dog sought it's shade and plopped down in a way I've felt in the past -- a desperate "I have to just plop here and do not ask me to get up, I just can't".  I would be beet red as a person, but in her case her tongue was hanging out like the doggie version of Rolling Stones' logo.  Gene Simmons would be proud and want her as his dog, I'm sure. Gads! 

I turned to the Internet, of course, and found a YouTube about 'Dysautonomia in Animals' by a veterinary educator who is really a veteral of the truth movement.  I've now had the good fortune to speak to him by phone about that dog and about O'Rio.  And I've gotten to experience the rabid chiropractic world which I'd heard about and believe it to be old ways being rehashed, but no, there are goons and cheats. But even with that kind of provider the improvement in the dog (which was to be a demonstration / estimate of treatment session) was stunning! 

So my wishes with Santa last weekend for O'Rio was to get the provider he's suggested for him -- 15 years experience post taking his course and involved in the important politics of the associations needing to work together with the demand by consumers and providers for services for animals and humans.  The irony was Santa know of this technique that I've learned of for dysautonomia (and this applies to other animals, humans too, so chiropractors and veterinarians x 8,000 have learned from this innovative veterinarian out of Idaho who came up with the stuff. 

I thought of my mother when he says almost all people have some dysautonomia or more -- she was finding that with all but one third grader in our local elementary school when I was a kid, then being called 'sensory integration dysfunction', which I would see as part of 'autism' when in OT school at CSU in the mid 1990s. 

So while it sounds simple to learn to test and avoid mercury and aluminum so you don't go into a dys-auto-nomic state, it's not.  But I can tell it was worth it and a new hope, because as any of you know who have been around for a while with me, I've been trying to figure out and help my health situation for over forty years now.  I'd have successes and then .... I'd have problems again and I did not see why.  Now I know.  And now I can run a little again, and skip! Things I'd lost the ability to do in a Parkinsons-like progression that was following in my father's shuffling footsteps.  So that's the great and big news really.  And O'Rio got such an improved diet and reduced exposures he started running too! He and I both get sore left feet a lot but on our good days, he is like Forest Gump, he just wants to run and you can tell he's happy! 

And I had new milestones I'm proud to tell you about with Lumigrate.  One was in the summer and fall, an up and coming products manufacturer saw that my interest in and coverage of her and her products was helping her grow and she wanted to support my work.  It just is not my model to have providers solely having that kind of place with things so it propelled me to create the Mardy PopIns Pen Pal Program which allows anyone to give to me for my work and get a letter from me in return. 

All the information about what I think is important for people to know will always be free at Lumigrate, this is a more intimate, behind or within the scenes, friendly, casual letter that comes to people's mailbox.  They don't need to write back, but they won't get another unless they give me another gift of funding that allows me to -- have Lumigrate be free to all, and continue my work. 

The response so far was good, and we wanted to include her teas as 'cracker jack or happy meal type healthy treats inside' but I wanted them to be with certain details worked out and she'll hopefully get there in 2018.  So I've held up the letters going to the new people and we'll pick it up for the New Year. 

THIS was the nice surprise I had on a Friday evening in early November --- initially it was 300+ and I just watched as the numbers kept going up! It lasted about an hour overall or more, who knows when it started I just happened to check on how many were reading because it was the start of the holiday season and a Friday which is not usual time for people to be online learning in general.  But in the complex chronic conditions community it's just all different! So thank you to anyone who helps people learn of Lumigrate -- that was a share of a link on Facebook in a large group with a discussion that encouraged people to partake.

This is a photo of me receiving a book there about extreme mold avoidance which took the moldie community by storm after it was released..... people leave most of their things and basically go camping and changing their exposures. Putting together the drafty info about the O'Rio mini sculpture: 

O'Rio finally got to see the "GO'Rio" sculpture! It's in my hot little hands, and now I just get to envision the places we will go!  

I've gotten to thinking about how this mini sculpture has a lot to offer in understanding about the realities of the world today, through it's story of being created and delivered to us.  I am reminded that we can be aided in any frustrations with how life goes by trusting that things are happening as they are to be occuring. Or we could also be more dog-like!

Since February, I'd been seeing photographs of the completed art I'd "requested" as a donation to our efforts with outreach, education, and FUNdraising. It was so interesting to see the photos unfold as Jason Keegan, the Denver artist I'd originally met on Facebook because of activism about what's being applied to our atmosphere unnaturally and suruptitiously, took my request and I got to see, perhaps, his career as an artist evolve and unfold a bit.  

The summer of 2017 was a big turningpoint for me.  I can pinpoint the wind storm in June which lead to many other things occurring, and by the fall the decision was made O'Rio would become my dog, though I always think of him as Our Dog O'Rio. His former family was large and they loved him a great deal, their lives were complicated and lead them all to NOT being the best fit for him as a human guardian.  I have a lot of the thing he needs, but funds for veterinary care on a complex animal were going to be a challenge.  And GO'Rio is intended to solve that.  

People who give specifically about GO'Rio will be given unique and individualized opportunities with us.  And my sincere intention is the information shared in return will help uncountable critters in their future times to have improved well-being, while shifting the costs involved to other types of products and providers. Ideally lowering costs, of course, overall.  

My work is cut out for me now that the piece is in my hands!  Those who have been part of it so far will be given the opportunity to hear the introduction of Our Story So Far as thanks for doing what they've done.  Jason heard the first part of the first draft.  It was too long, so after an in-person reading had the same feel to me about length, I went back to the house where my computer was while O'Rio and I were staying at a house that couldn't accommodate my work station (but they could accommodate a 100 pound dog, that's the priority!).  

In the summer of 2017, I began writing letters, which were going to be a pen pal program. The letter writing tracks back to just after I'd met with Jason in the summer of 2016.  I had good friends who had O'Rio and the other dog I was watching at the time up to their mountain house for dinner and a sleepover, and I wanted to send them a thank you.  I returned to O'Rio's now former house with him in August 2016 after spending the night in Evergreen to talk to the Chow Down Pet Supply home base head people, and had a terrible time simply writing a letter.  I rewrote it.  Again and again.  I also could barely walk up the stairs! This was reminiscent of the terrible summers I'd had in the past, 1988 and 1994, where I would be fore-seeing a mobility device or being home bound.  I seriously "cleaned up my act", which meant diet, lifestyle overall, and the house.  The house had been "lived in" for months by someone who had a very different lifestyle than mine and it was an extensive task to make it safe for a person like me to inhabit.  I therefore couldn 

Sometimes frustrated with the length of time things took for the little masterpiece to be created, and how circumstances prevented our getting together with the artist for O'Rio's birthday at the end of February. But then things would fall into place the end of July involving two of my longest and bestest friends, and here we are!

Timing will be what it is.  Divine timing -- synchronicities -- graced the delivery of O'Rio into my hot little hands, and to O'Rio's cold, wet nose.
