I saw that Dr Hellerstein had posted a high recommendation on Facebook of a very interesting looking article from the British medical journal The Lancet. It's really a great resource. I have to say that I would like to see the 'concussion' word stay as a physics word and anything that had to do with the brain be called a brain injury (mild if it is what has been historically, sloppily, called "concussion", which takes out the 'brain' reference and hence my wanting to see change on that front). It's so easy when it's an everyday occurrence, to hear of a concussion and really it's a brain injury.
Which one makes a lasting impact when YOU see both 'words'? This is important -- our athletes in some sports are being encouraged and employed to do things that leads to greatly increased risk of them developing progressive neurological conditions. And those who have mild brain injuries from their heads concussing with a fall or other incident also can minimize and dismiss the occurrence with the word 'concussion' - 'mild brain injury' makes a more of an impression.
