Lumigrate's "Minister of Music" on the Healing Power of Music - Rock Cesario of Triple Play Records with Darden Smith BONUS

12/12/2010 - For those who follow along on facebook, you'll perhaps recognize the name "Rock Cesario", because most Sundays I will post that I'm listening to my 'Minister of Music, Rock Cesario' on his local radio show.  His radio show and his column in the larger local news 'paper' (and now for-fee-online not for FREE online) have always been some of my favorite things about living in Grand Junction.  Seven years ago right now I had just arrived here, and it turns out that Rock was one of the first people I met.  His store, Triple Play Records, turns out to be quite the 'common ground' in Grand Junction, and I now know that Rock grew up here -- WITH Chris Young, who you can see in videos, listen to on podcasts, and read in the Forums on Lumigrate.com.  I look forward to the two of them sitting down to 'rap' as Chris said the other day in an e-mail about it, reminding me that was quite a blast from the past word, 'rap', in terms of talking, not a form of music. 

Below's the link to find our digital audio content and below is what you'll see when you go there directly -- so you can access it in either place.  We hope you listen and find this FUN and enjoyable hearing everything from Adam's excitement over learning a trick for how to easily open up new CD cases to the depths of the lyrics that Rock reads which he had selected related to illness and pain.  In the last month or so in talking with Rock about guesting on a podcast, I've gone from not knowing who Darden Smith is, to really being a big fan of his, not only for the CD and his giving to our podcast as he has, but to find out about his school-education program and what he accomplishes with that.  (He suggests to kids not that they become musicians necessarily, but that they pursue what they want to be -- something I had to bring to my own life in adulthood and, looking back, my life would have just been so much 'easier' had I been encouraged to do the things I had identified in my youth as professional interests for adulthood.  Darden's website has more about that if you're interested, it's a good video and etc.)

On this podcast, Rock relates a story of an exchange he had with a customer about how music heals.  It's powerful, and got me a phone call from Rock saying 'I have to tell you what just happened in my store' -- and I know that Lumigrate has now changed Rock's perception of music a bit -- openend his ears up to a different direction and his mind up to different thoughts to think and verbalize to others, the teacher that he clearly is.  To many in this town, Rock is our 'Minister of Music'.  

It's pretty special to hear about when Adam, as a kid, went into Rock's 'new' store, 22 years ago, and naturally, Adam brings in his perspective about music in his life.  And in the near future, we intend to have Chris Young's response from a neuropsychology perspective of what music does to the mind and brain (and body!) ~~ Mardy
